Srinagar, Dec 24 (KNO): The government of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday issued an order sanctioning the formation of District Level Committees to oversee the verification of beneficiaries enrolled under the Public Distribution System (PDS) database. The committees, as per an order, a copy of which lies with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), will be responsible for verifying the eligibility of beneficiaries, identifying and including any left-out eligible individuals, and completing the e-KYC process for pending beneficiaries. The Government Order No. 2129-JK(GAD) of 2024 dated December 24 available with news agency- Kashmir News Observer-KNO- the committees will be chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, with the Assistant Commissioner (Revenue), Assistant Commissioner (Development), District Social Welfare Officer, and Assistant Director (FCS & CA) as members. The Assistant Director (FCS & CA) will serve as the Member Secretary, and the Chairperson has been authorized to co-opt additional members as deemed necessary. The committees have been directed to ensure that all beneficiaries in the database comply with the applicable rules, weeding out any ineligible individuals. They are also tasked with identifying left-out eligible beneficiaries and ensuring their inclusion in appropriate PDS categories. Additionally, the committees will oversee the completion of e-KYC for all eligible beneficiaries under the PDS. As per the government order, the committees are required to submit their reports to the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs within one month—(KNO)
